     আচলতে, Tense শব্দটো Latin শব্দ Tempus ৰ পৰা উৎপত্তি হৈছে, যাৰ অৰ্থ হ'ল Time (সময়) ।

Concept of Tense and Time :- Tense আৰু Time ৰ Concept টো বেলেগ বেলেগ হয় । যত Time হৈছে এটা Natural Concept, আনহাতে ইংৰাজী অধ্যয়নৰ ক্ষেত্ৰত Tense হৈছে এটা Grammatical Concept. Tense সম্বন্ধ English Grammar ৰ লগত । Tense আৰু Time ৰ Concept টো সমপৰ্যায়ৰ নহয় । এনেকুৱা বহুতো Sentence হ'ব পাৰে যিবোৰ Future Time ত কাৰ্য সম্পন্ন হোৱা দেখা যায়, কিন্তু English Grammar ৰ নিয়ম অনুসৰি, সেইবোৰত Present Tense ৰ নিয়ম প্ৰযোজ্য হয় । সেইবোৰ Present Tense ৰ নিয়ম অনুসৰি অনুবাদ কৰা হয় । যেনে :-

They are coming tomorrow.

He is going to Guwahati tomorrow.

The principal retires in the month of July.

   ওপৰৰ বাক্যবোৰে Future Time/Action ৰ কথা প্ৰকাশ কৰিছে, কিন্তু সেইবোৰ Present Tense ৰ নিয়ম অনুসৰি অনুবাদ কৰা হৈছে । এতিয়া আমি নিশ্চয় বুজি পালো যে Tense আৰু Time ৰ Concept টো বেলেগ বেলেগ হয় ।

Question : What is tense ?

Ans : Tense denotes the time of action done by the verb. Or

   Tense is that form of a verb which shows not only the time of an action but also the state of an action or event.

(সাধাৰণতে ক্ৰিয়াৰ সময়কে Tense বুলি কোৱা হয় । আচলতে ইংৰাজী ভাষাত,কাম কৰিবলৈ প্ৰধানকৈ তিনিটা সময় ধৰি লোৱা হয় ।) যেনে -

Ram does the work. ৰামে কামটো
কৰে । (বৰ্তমান)

Ram did the work. ৰামে কামটো
কৰিছিল ।(অতীত)

Ram will do the work. ৰামে কামটো
কৰিব ।(ভৱিষ্যত)

ওপৰত উল্লেখ কৰা কামৰ এই তিনিটা সময়কে Tense (কাল) বোলা হয়৷ Tense ৰ প্ৰধানকৈ ৩ টা প্ৰকাৰ আছে । যেনে-

     Types of Tense :-

a) Present Tense ( বৰ্তমান কাল )

b) Past Tense ( অতীত কাল )

c) Future Tense ( ভৱিষ্যত কাল )

a) Present Tense : যি ক্ৰিয়াই বৰ্তমান সময়ত কোনো এটা কাম কৰা বা হোৱা বুজায়, তাক Present Tense বোলে । যেনে-

I play football. মই ফুটবল খেলো।

I am playing football. মই ফুটবল খেলি আছো ।

I have played football.মই ফুটবল খেলিলো ।

I have been playing football.মই ফুটবল খেলিয়েই আছো ।

Present Tense ৰ ভাগ ৪ টা হ'ল --

a) Present Indefinite Tense / Simple

     Present Tense

b) Present Continuous Tense

c) Present Perfect Tense

d) Present Perfect Continuous Tense

b) Past Tense : যি ক্ৰিয়াই অতীত কালত কোনো এটা কাম কৰা বা হোৱা বুজায়, তাক Past Tense বোলে । যেনে-

I played football. মই ফুটবল খেলিছিলো ।

I was playing football. মই ফুটবল খেলি আছিলো ।

I had played football. মই ফুটবল খেলিছো ।

I had been playing football. মই ফুটবল খেলিয়েই আছিলো ।

Past Tense ৰ ভাগ ৪ টা হ'ল --

a) Past Indefinite Tense / Simple Past

     Tense

b) Past Continuous Tense

c) Past Perfect Tense

d) Past Perfect Continuous Tense

c) Future Tense : যি ক্ৰিয়াই ভৱিষ্যত কালত কোনো এটা কাম কৰা বা হোৱা বুজায়,তাক Future Tense বোলে । যেনে-

I shall play football. মই ফুটবল খেলিম ।

I shall be playing football. মই ফুটবল খেলি থাকিম৷

I shall have played football. মই ফুটবল খেলিব লাগিব ।

I shall have been playing football. মই ফুটবল খেলিয়েই থাকিম

Future Tense ৰ ভাগ ৪ টা হ'ল --

a) Future Indefinite Tense / Simple Future

     Tense

b) Future Continuous Tense

c) Future Perfect Tense

d) Future Perfect Continuous Tense

Forms Of Verbs :-

    Modern Grammar ত Verbs বোৰক Regular আৰু Irregular Verbs এই দুই ধৰণে ভাগ কৰা হৈছে ।

   যি Verb ৰ লগত t, d, ed যোগ কৰি Past Tense লৈ পৰিৱৰ্তন কৰা হয়, সেইটো হ'ল Regular Verb. যেনে -

    Live                 Lived                Lived

  যি Verb ৰ লগত t, d, ed যোগ কৰিলে Past Tense লৈ পৰিৱৰ্তন নহয়, সেইটো হ'ল Irregular Verb. এই Verb বোৰ Past Tense কৰাৰ ক্ষেত্ৰত কোনো নিৰ্ধাৰিত নিয়ম নাই । যেনে -
